You only live once. Make sure that you're doing something that you love to do. If you're in college, it's still not too late to switch your major. Do it now, instead of returning to school when you're in your 30's. I switched from biology to fashion merchandising because I loved it. Just make yourself happy- it's your life.
2. You don't have to document every moment on Snapchat.
This is something I'm still learning (I'm so sorry if you're my friend on Snapchat!). If you're at a concert, put your phone down and actually enjoy the music. Memories lose their value when you're focused on taking pictures the entire time.
3. Don't judge others on things you can't understand.
This is really important. It's easy to judge someone when you don't understand why they do the things that they do. But keep an open mind and stay kind because you never know what others are going through.
4. It's never too late to learn something new.
If you want to learn a new language- sign up for a class! Want to learn how to play guitar? Go for it! The sky is the limit! It's never too late to try something new.
5.You don't need to have everything figured out yet.
People in their 50's don't even know what they want to do with their lives. You're only 19. It's okay to not have your entire life planned out. When someone asks you where you see yourself in ten years, don't hesitate to say "I'm not sure."
6. Don't worry about what other people think.
We all worry way too much about what other people think about us. We want to be well-liked and we over-analyze situations. But don't spend too much time worrying about other people and just focus on yourself!
7. Some people are mean- it's nothing you did.
Your mom might have told you when you were younger, "She's mean to you because she's jealous of you." Well that's not always true. Sometimes people are just mean because they're mean people, and there's nothing you can do.
8. Be the bigger person.
This goes for a lot of different situations. Just be the bigger person, no matter how hard it may be. If someone subtweets you on Twitter, just ignore it. They didn't have the courage to say it to your face, so their tweet is irrelevant. Keep calm and carry on!
9. Don't hold on to people who aren't healthy for you.
Whether it's a boyfriend or a friend- let go of those who you don't have healthy relationships with. Sometimes it's better to have one friend than to have ten friends who make you feel bad about yourself. Surround yourself with supportive and happy people because that can make a world of a difference.
10. Make the effort to make someone smile.
I understand that life gets busy, but take a few minutes every day to make someone smile. Whether it's complimenting a stranger on their outfit, holding the door for someone, or sending a cute text to a friend. You'll be surprised at how happy it'll make you feel.
11. Your mom is usually right.
You might never admit it- but your mom is almost always right. If she says your new boyfriend is trouble, she's probably right. Don't brush off any of her advice because she's only out for your best interest!
12. Don't compare yourself to others.
With social media, it's nearly impossible to not compare ourselves to others. Just remember that you are your own person and that you're beautiful in your own ways.
13. Appreciate your college years while you're still a student.
College is four short years so make sure you enjoy them. We'll probably never have this little of responsibilities. So take it all in; go out with your friends, eat too much pizza, and laugh a lot.
14. Step out of your comfort zone to make new friends.
It's scary to take a leap of faith, but I'm so thankful that I took the chance on going Greek my freshman year of college. I met my best friends and I know our friendships will last years after college. Whether you go Greek or not, take that leap and try making new friends!
15. You'll hear a lot of "no's" but don't let that discourage you.
You'll hear a lot of no's; whether it's a rejection letter from a college, from your dream internship, or from a professor. And that's okay. Every time someone tells you "no," you are learning a lesson and being steered on the path that will lead you to success.
16. Love and respect yourself.
Learn to love yourself! You shouldn't depend on someone else for your happiness. You are worthy, smart, and capable of many things. Fall in love with yourself before you fall in love with anyone else.
17. It's okay to cry.
Just because you're almost an adult, it doesn't mean that you can't cry. Sometimes crying is the best medicine. So go ahead and cry it out, eat a quart of ice cream, and watch your favorite movie. Tomorrow will be a better day.
18. Ice cream can cure any broken heart.
I'm an avid ice cream eater. I think that ice cream can turn any day into a good day. If you're feeling down, drive to the nearest ice cream shop and get the biggest sundae that they sell. Treat yourself!
19. Happy girls are the prettiest girls.
Always look on the bright side of things! You may not have gotten your dream internship across the country, but now you can go home for the summer, save money, and spend time with friends. Or maybe a boy broke your heart, but now you're one step closer to finding your soulmate! There's always a positive in every situation. Do your best to start and end each day with a smile.
