It's crazy to think that in five and a half weeks, I'll be graduating! Keep reading to find out the five things I've learned this school year.
1. You'll find out who your friends are.
I've had many friends throughout college and my friend group has completely changed from freshman year. Many of the girls I was friends with four years ago are no longer friends of mine and it's so weird to look back. However, I've made amazing friends this year and I have no regrets about these changes. It doesn't matter whether you have twenty best friends or five- it's the fact that you have some amazing people in your life. I'm confident that the friends I have today are the friends I'll keep throughout life, even once we're separated by distance starting in May.
2. There's way bigger problems in the world.
When I was a freshman, I would freak out if something small went wrong in my life. I was very focused on myself and never took a look at the world around me. This is something I've changed over the years (thank gosh!). Now that I'm a senior, I'm a lot more aware of my surroundings and I've calmed down a lot. When something goes wrong, I breathe and work through it before turning it into a big deal. Sometimes things aren't as awful as they seem, so it's important to take a step back and look at things from a birds-eye view.
3. There's a lot of bittersweet "lasts".
As the year is coming to a close, I'm starting to realize how many "lasts" there are. I'll never go to another football tailgate, participate in Homecoming festivities, or recruit new girls into my sorority. It's also weird knowing how many more "lasts" I have yet to come across. One day in the near future I'll be taking my last test, walking to class for the last time, and taking my last step on campus. It's a bittersweet feeling. This college town has become my home for the past four years and I can't shake the feeling that I'm going to miss it so much.
4. Adulting is scary.
I've been figuring out how to adult lately, and wow is it confusing and scary! I have to figure out my job, look into retirement and other benefits, find a place to live, pay for things I've never had to.... it's honestly so overwhelming! I've attended a few speakers on my campus to learn more about these things but I still feel lost. I'm not excited to figure all of these things out, but I am excited to start this new chapter of my life.
5. Time Flies.
I still can't believe I'm a senior or that I'm graduating in five short weeks. I still feel like a junior and it feels like freshman year was just last month. I remember when I was a freshman, I listened to the seniors in my sorority tell me how fast it will fly by. I didn't believe them at the time, but they were so right. It really feels like I blinked and suddenly college is almost over!
To my younger readers- time moves so much faster than you realize. Don't take advantage of these moments because you're going to miss these days!
