After a busy semester, I'm so glad to be home enjoying this three-week break. Since the last few days have been so fun, I figured I would write a short blog post about what I've been up to!
My boyfriend, Jake, came home with me to kick off the break on Saturday. We brought our kitten, Scobey, and he's loved running around my house and terrorizing both my elderly cat and dog. Since Jake will only be here for a few days, I wanted to make sure we had a fun-packed week!
On Sunday, we went to downtown Geneva, IL. and got chocolate-covered strawberries from Graham's. Jake also ordered their famous butter beer shake (any Harry Potter fans?!) and it was the best shake I've ever tasted. After walking around (and freezing), we got dinner and saw the Larsen's Christmas Lights show. Seeing the lights is a yearly tradition and every year, they create different light shows to different songs. This year my favorite song was their Blackhawks hockey lights- it was very impressive!
On Monday, I took Jake to Naperville's Top Golf. We've never been but I've always wanted to try it. Jake and I played for one hour and squeezed in three games. It was a lot of fun and my favorite part was the drink menu- they have Sangria's! After we finished, we drove to downtown Naperville and walked around the cute boutiques. My favorite store there is Cookie Dough Creations (yum!)

On Tuesday, Jake and I went to Portillo's for lunch because I can't let him leave Illinois without getting it! We also saw the new Star Wars movie in Naperville and met my family for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. My favorite part of the day was after dinner when we went to the Sugar Factory in Rosemont. I've never been before but had always wanted to try it because I have a major sweet tooth. We sat at the bar and ordered a goblet of a drink called the Energy Bear- it was delicious!
The best day of the week was Wednesday because we went to Chicago! We went downtown last year and are in the process of making it a yearly tradition. Once we arrived in the city, we visited the Chicago Christkindlmarket and it was beautiful! I loved seeing all the handmade ornaments and crafts from Germany. I'm also super intrigued by their potato pancakes and hope to try them sometime (I'm a picky eater and was too scared to try them then).
We also visited the Bean and Maggie Daley park. I wanted to go ice skating but the line was long and Jake was scared he would fall in public (haha). We spent the evening walking around the city, taking in the view, and shopping at Macy's. The Chicago Macy's is HUGE and there is so much to do there. There's several restaurants, a food court, salons, and more. Jake and I tried out the sports bar located in the basement and it was so yummy! We shopped 'til we dropped (literally) and then boarded the train back home.
So far, Winter Break has been a blast and I'm sad that Jake will be leaving to go home soon. He's my best friend and we always have so much fun together. Being in a relationship with someone from another state has it's ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I love that we get to show each other our different cities and explore new ones together.
Over the next week, I'm looking forward to spending time with family, relaxing, and reading books (including "Sorority Girls can Change the World")!
Until next time!
