I'm excited to report back on my collaboration with the Intern Queen! I've recently read All Work, No Pay by Lauren Berger. It played a key role in me landing my Summer 2017 internship, so I wanted to share more about it with you guys!
This book contains a lot of useful information regarding how to land an internship. I'll be honest- I received this book after applying to over one hundred internships, so I was a little skeptical. I thought I already knew it all. However, this book opened my eyes and made me realize that I needed to put in a little more effort in order to land an internship.
Lauren Berger gives advice on how to update your resumes, cover letters, and other tools. After reading this section, I updated everything and started applying to more internships. I landed several interviews just after doing that! She also discusses how to utilize social media and how to rock your interviews. I really enjoyed the interview section because I'm someone who typically gets very nervous before I interview with a company. Her book was very helpful because it broke down the different steps of the interview process. She discusses how to respond to e-mails throughout the process and how to approach the different types of interviews (in-person, phone, Skype, and coffee shop). This section also includes information such as the most commonly asked interview questions, how to prepare for the interview, what questions you should ask, and what you should wear.
Other sections include Networking 101, what to do when you land your internship, how to prepare for you internship, and what to do when you finish your internship.
I really enjoyed All Work, No Pay because I learned a lot of information that I wouldn't have sought out otherwise. After finishing the book and landing my own internship, I felt like an expert on the subject and couldn't help but talk about it to all of my friends who were also searching for internships. If you're searching for a Summer or Fall 2017 internship, I highly suggest buying Lauren Berger's book! It's under $10 on Amazon so it's a great deal!
