I'm super excited to announce that I will be spending my summer in Brooklyn!
Last week I found out that I will be interning in New York this summer!! I couldn't be any more excited for this opportunity and I can't wait to see what will come out of this experience. I've only been to New York once- when I traveled with my modeling agency to attend various casting calls for Fashion Week. I have a feeling that spending the entire months of June and July in the city will be a life-changing experience for me.
As the hunt for an apartment begins, it's all becoming more and more real. I'm nervous, excited, anxious, and so many other emotions. It's scary to think that I'll be all alone in the Big Apple, but I know that I'll form friendships with the other interns and have a blast. Luckily, several friends from school will be in New York at various points throughout the summer so I'll get to see familiar faces. I'm from a farming community in Illinois, so it will be a big adjustment to live in the concrete jungle that's known as New York City.
My internship is located in Greenpoint Brooklyn, and it's right across the river from Manhattan. I have a feeling that I'll be spending a lot of time in Manhattan- exploring the Upper East Side (GOSSIP GIRL!), Central Park, 7th Avenue, the Empire State Building, and all of the other incredible sights. If you've ever seen the show The Carrie Diaries, you'll understand why I'm so excited to intern in New York. I love the fashion industry and am way too excited to dive in.
So, what exactly will I be doing in New York? I will be interning for Nava New York! I'm one of the social media marketing interns, so I'll be running their various social media platforms. I will also have the opportunity to attend fashion shows, plan photo shoots, and other fun things! This internship is seriously a dream come true and I couldn't be any more thankful.
I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. If I hadn't gone through a breakup, I would never have thought about applying for an internship outside of the Midwest because long distance would be hard. If I hadn't met my friend who lives in New York, I would have never considered applying to an internship in the city. If I didn't get rejected from an internship back home, I wouldn't have been able to accept this internship in New York. Everything worked out perfectly and I'm so unbelievably blessed. Like the quote says,"Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may actually falling into place."
I am so excited to embark on this crazy adventure at the end of May. I'm so humbled to be considered for this internship and I hope to learn a lot from it. Stay tuned for weekly blog posts about the intern life in NYC starting in June!
