Now that there's only about a month until I move into my sophomore year dorm, I have been frantically scrambling for dorm decor. If you don't have the time to sit and paint a canvas, or the money to spend on buying a finished one at the store; this craft is perfect for you!
One thing that I LOVE about this craft is how inexpensive it is. You don't need many supplies!
STEP 1: Flip the canvas over and make sure that the fabric is underneath it WRONG SIDE UP. Don't make the mistake of having the wrong side of the fabric on the front of the canvas! Ensure that the fabric is smooth and there are no wrinkles, and that the canvas is centered.
STEP 2: Fold one edge of fabric over the canvas. Staple it down. Make sure that the fabric is still centered and not crooked (You don't want the pattern to appear crooked on the canvas at the very end!)
STEP 3: Repeat this process on the side opposite to the one that you just did.
STEP 4: Now staple down one of the long sides. Leave the corners alone for now!
STEP 5: Repeat Step 4 on the opposite long side. Leave the corners alone again.
STEP 6: Now we will tackle the corners! First make sure that the corners look something similar to this.
STEP 7: Fold the corner so it looks like this. It's the same process that you use when wrapping presents during Christmas!
STEP 8: Fold one flap over and staple/hot-glue it down.
STEP 9: Fold the other flap over and staple/hot-glue it down.
It should look something similar to this when you're finished! Repeat this process on the other 3 corners.
Congratulations! You made your first fabric canvas. These are great ways to fill an empty wall, or to give as a gift. You could also take this DIY a step further and paint a monogram on top, or hot glue a painted wooden letter on top! Goodluck!
